Accommodation
Our students come from
all parts of the UK and abroad to study with us. Some, who live
within travelling distance, choose to live at home, but for those
who need accommodation, our staff in the Accommodation Office can
give you advice on what's available and help you find the right
place to live.
Our accommodation
All first years who want to live in our accommodation are
usually able to do so. You will also have the option to apply for a
place in halls during any year of your studies. We can also help
you find alternative accommodation if required, by providing
information on a wide variety of
private sector accommodation in York.
Existing students can
download a list of available private
accommodation from here (Excel.doc).
If you decide that you wish to study at York St John University
and make us your firm choice, we will send you full information
about accommodation together with an Accommodation Application Form
in May/June. Accommodation will be allocated after the publication
of the A2 Level results in August.

experienced in dealing with all sorts of queries, from the 'dos and
don'ts' of signing a contract to difference types of insurance.

we are a city centre campus. There are public car parks nearby and
excellent park and ride facilities for those who need them. Car

How much will it cost?
If you live in University accommodation you will pay residence
fees. These will vary according to the category of room.
The charge for a weekly catered package in a single room with
wash-basin is in the region of £104. This charge is based on a 31
week tenancy.
Self-catering accommodation is available in 2009-10 at the
following cost:
- The Grange - £72 - £77
- City Residence - £82 - £91
- Limes Court - £73 - £75
- Holgate Hall - £69
- Percy Lane - £90 - £125
Residence fees are payable in three termly instalments. However
if you withdraw from YSJ you will be released from your contract
but you will be charged one calendar month's rent from the date you
hand in your key. If you decide to move out of your accommodation
during the contracted period you will be responsible for the rent
for the full contracted period unless
another tenant is found.
Some students live in private rented accommodation which costs
about £62 per week per week in York at the moment. The
Accommodation Office can provide a list of private properties and
an information sheet to help you find this type of accommodation.
In order to advertise on the accommodation list private owners and
agents must supply up-to-date gas safety reports and declare that
all foam-filled furnishings are flame retardant in accordance with
the Furniture and Furnishings (Fire Safety) Regulations 1988.
It will always be your responsibility to find the right sort of
accommodation for you, but our Accommodation Office will be there
to offer friendly help and advice. For the most up to date
