Academic Tutors

Everyone has an Academic Tutor allocated to them by their programme.  You will be informed of your tutor's name and contact details by your Head of Programme.

Your Academic Tutor has been appointed to help you with the following:

  • To reflect regularly on your aspirations, achievements and development needs
  • To help you take responsibility for your own learning development
  • To give you a source of personal support and advice, including referral to specialist teams across campus for expert guidance on learning, careers, personal development and wellbeing
  • To ensure that an accurate record of your undergraduate career is maintained and summarised for the University record
  • To ensure that accurate and relevant references are produced for you

Take the opportunity to meet with your Academic Tutor each semester and help them to help you.

For further information on Academic Tutors, speak to your Head of Programme or a member of staff in your Faculty/School office.

Course difficulties

  • If you have course related issues, speak with your Tutor, Academic Tutor or Head of Programme
  • If you feel you need specific help with writing skills, make an appointment with the Writing Development Team
  • If you suspect that you may have a disability or specific learning difficulty, make an appointment with the Disability Service
  • If you are finding using any computer systems/packages as part of your course, contact the I.T Support Tutor

Time Management

Time management isn't just jargon.  It's about organising your time effectively to cope with the demands made on you as a student.  It's about being systematic and learning how to cope with pressure - particularly at key points in the academic year.

For more help, contact your Academic Tutor or make an appointment with Writing Development via the Student Advice Team.
