Postgraduate & Post-experience opportunities
Welcome...
I would like to extend a warm welcome in advance to
you if you are considering York St John University for your
postgraduate or post-experience studies. This is a relatively small
university with a reputation for being friendly and inclusive.
We also have the advantage of being located at the centre of
the beautiful historic city of York.
York St John University is developing a
reputation for quality research with 40% of the research we
submitted for the 2008 Research Assessment Exercise (RAE) being
rated as internationally important and an increase of over 500% in
the Quality Research funding we were awarded in comparison with the
2001 RAE.
Our postgraduate and post-experience students
are members of the 6,000-strong student body, registered between
the Faculties of Arts, Education & Theology and Health &
Life Sciences and the York St John Business School. Our students
enjoy a close working relationship with their supervisors within an
academic community where they are valued and integrated.
An investment in recent years of £50 million in
buildings and facilities has resulted in the creation of a dynamic
campus. We provide all the services you would expect from a
Higher Education institution, with the added bonus of quick and
easy access to support staff. Our well-equipped hot-desk
resource centre for research students encourages cross-disciplinary
student interaction.
York St John fees are very competitive for research
students, who are entitled to claim up to £900 for full-time (£450
for part-time students) in expenses towards the completion of their
dissertations. Expenses can be used to support conference
attendance, travel, equipment, books and anything else that will
enhance your research.
We continue to develop our range of taught Masters
programmes, which are geared towards enhancing graduate
employability. As this is a teaching-led university, you can be
sure that the first priority of academic staff is always their
teaching and their students. Beyond this, many members of staff
produce excellent research and have national reputations in their
fields.
A significant number of our postgraduate programmes
attract international students from a range of countries. By
choosing to study with us you can look forward to a rich and
diverse experience, and the networking opportunities, that
internationalism brings with it.
York St John has a clear aim to be an outstanding
regional university serving York and North Yorkshire but with a
global reach. Our commitment to widening participation and
lifelong learning is recognised nationally. I hope to have
the opportunity of welcoming you in person to this forward-looking
university.
