General English Summer Programme
July and August 2012
Our General English Language Programme continues year round, and
students are welcome to join the programme during the summer for a
short or long stay.
The University is located in the city
centre of beautiful and historic York, which offers exciting
entertainment and cultural activities that will allow you to
practise your English outside the classroom. During this course, we
offer an extended social and cultural programme. This will give you
opportunities to learn about British culture and York. You will
also develop friendships with students from many countries.
The course is accredited by the British Council, guaranteeing
you a high standard of teaching, study facilities and
accommodation. We offer state-of the-art teaching facilities,
including a multi-media Language Support Centre containing
excellent resources to assist your studies. The University also
offers IT suites, gym facilities and a dining area on campus.
What is the aim of the course?
The course is designed for students with lower
intermediate to upper intermediate English who wish to improve
their language skills for social and professional purposes. We aim
to help you develop a solid framework of knowledge in grammar,
vocabulary and pronunciation and improve your reading, writing,
listening and speaking skills. In your classes, you will have many
opportunities to practise using the language through communication
with other students and teachers. During the course, you will also
explore aspects of British cultural life and develop cross-cultural
understanding by working with students from many parts of the
world. On joining the course, you will be tested and placed in an
appropriate group, studying at your English language level.
