Career Development Advisers Liz Whitaker and Glynis Rushby
provide information, advice and guidance to final year
QTS
students and
PGCE
trainees on all aspects of getting their first teaching post,
through lectures, workshops and group work activities. One-to-one
appointments can also be booked (see our home page for contact
details).
The content of lectures and workshops include:
- job seeking (sources of vacancies etc)
- Local Authority recruitment practices (including teaching
'Pools'),
- making a successful application (including matching a person
specification),
- writing a personal statement
- interview skills
Liz and Glynis also organise an annual Teaching
Opportunities Day attended by representatives from Local
Authorities, and some teaching recruitment agencies, keen to
recruit newly qualified teachers. The next event will be held on
Wednesday 16th December 2009 between 12.00 and
2.30pm. You are welcome to come along to visit the many
stands and speak to representatives to find out about, for
example, recruitment deadlines and teaching pools.

Job Interview Preparation
Careers appointments are available to students preparing for an
