Research & Projects
Welcome to the Faculty of Health and Life
Sciences
The Faculty benefits from being multidisciplinary and
professionally orientated and supports research within the NHS and
social care settings. Our teaching content and practice is
informed by quality research and we strive to engage students at
the earliest point in the research process. We have ambitions to
improve our international contribution to quality research and have
invested in a new post graduate facility populated by a new wave of
national and international research students. Our
postgraduate environment is fresh and innovative and promotes a
culture of shared learning and support for researchers. The
Faculty has strength in research governance and ethics and has
supported many researchers to achieve successful research
outcomes.
As an academic institute we value quality research and recently
celebrated our success as being acknowledged as having pockets of
world- leading and internationally excellent research in the
Research Assessment Exercise (RAE 2008). We believe that the
benefits of our research should also be evident to people
locally and should contribute to the wider social setting and to
this end we have continued to work with businesses and health and
social care to translate research into practice.
Key areas of our research include cardiac rehabilitation,
prevention of cardiovascular disease, physical activity and
exercise, motivation, mental toughness, spirituality, occupation in
mental health, bullying and community psychology. Staff are
actively involved in national and international level consultation
and leadership in key research areas.
